“A Studio Session to Remember”

One of my quickest – and most widely heard – recording sessions happened years ago in Toronto. The project? The iconic Famous Players Movie Theaters Coming Attractions theme that played before films across Canada.

The French Horn part? Just six notes. The takes needed? Just one. The reach? Every Famous Players cinema across the country.

That simple horn melody ended up playing before countless movies for years, greeting millions of moviegoers as they settled into their seats with popcorn in hand. Sometimes the briefest sessions create the most lasting impressions.

“Virtual Performance Highlights 2020-2024”

Despite physical distances, the pandemic era opened new doors for international horn collaboration. I engaged in numerous virtual recordings and performances, connecting with fellow hornists across Europe and North America.

A career highlight during this period was my participation in the International Horn Society Workshop’s live-streamed event. As the sole player from Canada among eight wonderful hornists from the Eastern United States all the way down to Texas, we performed together seamlessly using Syncspace Live technology, breaking new ground in remote ensemble playing.

I was also honored to play as one of six great horn players for the prestigious Los Angeles Horn Club Tribute performance, collaborating virtually with some of the finest hornists in North America.

These experiences demonstrated how technology could unite musicians across borders, maintaining artistic excellence even when traditional concert halls were silent.

Here is my version of the famous Allan Civil horn solo on the Beatles’ song “For No One”. I played this on my Alexander 107 descant horn.
